A Family Day Out at Eastnor Castle: Our Honest Review

Discover why Eastnor Castle is one of our favourite family days out near Worcester. From the adventure playground and beautiful grounds to seasonal events, here's everything you need to know before you visit.

We visited Eastnor Castle with our toddler during the Steam & Vintage Rally, and it turned out to be one of those places that had something for everyone. He spent most of his time climbing around the playground, while we enjoyed wandering through the beautiful grounds and watching the historic steam engines in action. If you're wondering whether Eastnor Castle is worth visiting with young children, here's our honest experience.

Location

Eastnor Castle, Eastnor, Nr Ledbury, Herefordshire, HR8 1RL

Eastnor Castle is located just outside the market town of Ledbury in Herefordshire, surrounded by the beautiful Malvern Hills. It's an easy drive from Worcester, Malvern and Hereford, making it a great option for a family day out.

Parking was straightforward, with plenty of spaces available when we visited. From the car park, it's just a short walk to the entrance and castle grounds. We found it easy enough to manage with a toddler, and there was no long trek before the day even began. We did bring a pram, which I would recommend, but please note that sometimes it does require doing a detour to follow the accessible paths around the grounds.

What we Loved

One of the first things that struck us was just how beautiful the grounds are. Everywhere you look there's another view worth stopping for, whether it's the castle reflected in the lake, the sweeping lawns or the mature trees surrounding the estate. It was incredibly peaceful and well kept. Plenty of space for our toddler to run around and to spend time outdoors.

What’s On

They have various special events throughout the summer. We attended during the Eastnor Steam & Vintage show, which was definitely worth seeing. During our visit they had a band, activities for the kids, various different steam engines and lots more happening. My toddler was entertained and kept busy the entire time we were there.

The Grounds

One of our favourite parts of Eastnor Castle was simply wandering around the grounds. There are wide open lawns, peaceful lake and beautiful views in almost every direction, making it just as enjoyable for adults as it is for children. There’s a beautiful walk to do around the lake where you can see lots of ducks and geese. When we went we were lucky enough to see quite a few goslings.

Charlie loved having the freedom to explore, while we enjoyed taking in the scenery. It's one of those places where you don't feel rushed, there are plenty of benches, picnic spots and quiet corners to stop and soak it all in.

If you enjoy photography, don't forget to bring your camera. The castle, surrounding woodland and lakes provide countless opportunities for beautiful photos throughout the year.

The Adventure Playground

The adventure playground was undoubtedly the highlight of the day for our toddler. There was plenty to climb, explore and keep him entertained, and it caters for a wide range of ages.

We ended up spending much longer here than we'd expected, and it was lovely to see children of all ages enjoying the space. There are benches nearby for parents, making it easy to sit back for a few minutes while the little ones burn off some energy.

If you're visiting with toddlers or young children, I'd definitely recommend allowing plenty of time here, it could easily become the main event of your day.

We didn’t have a chance to do everything as there’s so much to do. But the playground was definitely a hit with my toddler. There’s also load more activities for slightly older children that we look forward to trying in the future.
